Sick of Mojitos? Looking for something with a little more kick this summer? Thanks to Ñ in SoHo, I have enjoyed Caipirinha's for the last few summers, especially on a nice breezy day. Fair warning; its bolder, stronger, more tart, and absolutely delicious, not for the faint of heart (or tongue). However, like the Mojito, this one takes a bit of practice.
Lizzard Caipirinha
≈2 1/2 Ounces of Leblon Cachaça (or any other cachaça)
≈1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
≈1 tablespoon of brown sugar
≈3 1/2 to 4 limes, quartered.
Place limes, and sugar into mixing glass and muddle either with a pilón or wooden spoon, make sure to get as much lime juice out of those limes as possible. I add in a little brown sugar to give it a little kick of spice and color. Add two or three ice cubes, and the cachaça and shake for about 4 seconds. Add to an old fashioned or high ball glass, sprinkle in a tiny pinch more of the granulated sugar and, ¡disfrutes! Need it more tart? Add another quarter of a lime.
Can't find cachaça? I'd suggest Marti rum as a specific replacement due to the tart lime flavor of the rum. If you cannot find cachaça in the rum section of your local "spirits dispenser", check the aperetif liquer section.
